On providing dynamic resource allocation based on multimedia traffic prediction in satellite systems
نویسنده
چکیده
The provision of acceptable Quality-of-Service (QoS) for integrated multimedia traffic over a geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO) satellite network demands the existence of a well-designed Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. This paper proposes a new dynamic satellite bandwidth allocation technique (Predictive Resource Reservation Access, PRRA) which is based on accurate videoconference traffic prediction. Our work is combined with another work on data traffic modeling and prediction and is shown to provide very good throughput and delay results. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Using traffic prediction and estimation of provider revenue for a joint GEO satellite MAC/CAC scheme
Satellite networks present an attractive solution in providing worldwide access to the present and future generation multimedia communication services. However, the burstiness of multimedia traffic and the long propagation delays in Geostationary (GEO) satellite systems call for an efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol and an equally efficient Call Admission Control (CAC) scheme, in or...
متن کاملIDMA-Based MAC Protocol for Satellite Networks with Consideration on Channel Quality
In order to overcome the shortcomings of existing medium access control (MAC) protocols based on TDMA or CDMA in satellite networks, interleave division multiple access (IDMA) technique is introduced into satellite communication networks. Therefore, a novel wide-band IDMA MAC protocol based on channel quality is proposed in this paper, consisting of a dynamic power allocation algorithm, a rate ...
متن کاملA dynamic bandwidth resource allocation based on neural networks in euroskyway multimedia satellite system
Advanced traffic management based on the Dynamic Resource Assignment allows a broadband satellite system such as EuroSkyWay (ESW) to dynamically assign the resources of connections. The mechanisms of the dynamic assignment exploit variations of Burstiness exhibited by real time and non real time Variable Bit Rate traffic sources to perform an optimised resource redistribution. The efficiency of...

An efficient resource allocation is important to guarantee the best performance with a fair distribution of multi-beam satellite capacity to provide satellite multimedia and broadcasting services. In this way, available bandwidth and capacity problems in new satellite system likes Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO), exploring new techniques for enhancing spectral efficiency in satellite communicat...
متن کاملOPNET Simulations of Multimedia Satellite Systems at COMSAT Laboratories
For almost a decade, COMSAT Laboratories has been using the OPNET tool for the simulation of multimedia satellite systems. Starting as one of the Beta sites for the first release of OPNET software, we have since applied the OPNET simulation environment to perform system evaluations and trade-offs in a variety of areas related to fixed and mobile multimedia satellite systems. This paper presents...
